The Lighthouse

THANG DO
Yarra Sculpture Gallery Melbourne

PRIZE WINNER Sculpture Now 2023

The Lighthouse, being true to its name, acts as a beacon of illuminance by employing the physics of light. Instead of emitting light, the sculpture and its hundreds of folds on each concave side reflect light into countless streaks that concentrate at one point before dispersing and casting a light show onto the surroundings. As insignificant and ephemeral as a paper fold is often thought to be when combined by the thousands, they are capable of erecting monuments. The paper, much like our behaviours, by its untouched potential, amounts to flatness; but through embellishments, capable of immense construction and radiation.
