The Imperial Series

The Imperial Series was conceptualised from the artist’s fascination with historic oriental decoration, more specifically, the imperial decorations found throughout Asia. The use of gold and rich finishes throughout history has always been associated with opulence. However, can that be reconstructed by using a material from the other end of the spectrum, paper? Repeating folds and cuts is a meditative process for the artist to escape the emotionally suppressive environment he drew inspiration from, but by shaping them into paper vessels, his artistic practice found an accessible way to materialise into landmarks reflecting his aspiration towards unfiltered expression.
